Overview
Africa Memory Map™ (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an interactive museum experience built for Teaching Africa Day. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Camera access. The app uses your device camera only to recognise the printed Africa Memory Map™ and display AR content. The camera feed is processed on-device in real time and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted to our servers.
- Local progress. Your visited hotspots and earned stamps are stored locally on your device (browser storage). They are not sent to us and can be cleared at any time by resetting your journey or clearing browser data.
- Analytics. We may collect anonymous usage statistics (such as the number of times a hotspot is opened) to improve the experience. This data is aggregated and never linked to your identity.
- No account required. The app does not require sign-up and does not collect names, email addresses, or phone numbers.
How we use information
- To deliver the AR scanning and hotspot experience.
- To remember your journey progress between sessions.
- To improve content, fix bugs, and understand engagement.
Data sharing
We do not sell or rent your data. Anonymous, aggregated statistics may be shared with the museum or educational partners solely to evaluate the programme. No personally identifiable information is ever shared.
Children's privacy
The app is designed for educational use, including children participating in Teaching Africa Day. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Camera access is used only for the AR experience and requires device-level permission that a parent or guardian controls.
Your rights
You can clear all locally stored progress at any time by selecting “Start a new journey” or by clearing your browser data. If you have questions about your data, contact us at the address on the Support page.

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
